¿Sabías que en una banda no se ensaya sino que se ensambla?

Sé que podrás pensar que me volví loco, pues normalmente usamos el término ensayo para referirnos a ese momento donde los instrumentos y las voces se unen para repasar las canciones que se van a tocar en cierto evento. Sin embargo, estamos usando mal este concepto y mi pregunta ahora cobra sentido: el ensayo es personal y el ensamble es grupal.

Veamos más a fondo estos dos conceptos para que tengas una mayor claridad frente al tema, ¿te parece?

Comencemos definiendo qué es un ensayo.

Un ensayo es el tiempo que tomas de tu día para la práctica personal esto te permitirá mejorar tus habilidades con el instrumento o con tu voz.

Pero, ¿qué debes tener en cuenta para tu ensayo personal?

Lo primero que debes hacer es entender a la perfección cada una de las partes de las canciones que vas a ensayar, así sabrás su progresión, los efectos que vas a utilizar y tendrás claro cuál es tu papel como instrumentista o voz dentro de la canción – aquí es muy importante que recuerdes que a veces menos es más. Una recomendación es que escuches las canciones las veces que sea necesario hasta que te queden completamente claras y puedas tocarlas bien.

Ahora veamos qué es un ensamble.

Un ensamble es cuando se acoplan todos los elementos (instrumentos y voces) que van en una canción. Para esto, es necesario un ensayo previo de cada uno de los integrantes.

Entonces, ¿cómo reconocer un mal ensamble?

Es cuando un músico o una voz llega sin haber escuchado la canción, sin haber ensayado su parte, cuando llega perdido porque no tiene clara cuál es su participación dentro de la canción y llega a improvisar o a sacar el efecto. Este conjunto de actitudes no muestra respeto por los integrantes que sí llegaron preparados y además hace que se pierda un tiempo que es muy valioso.

Ten en cuenta:

Hay cosas que requieren de un ensayo previo con algún compañero de la banda y esto lo puedes hacer minutos antes del ensamble, ¿qué cosas? Cortes, niveles de los efectos, solos, entre otros. Pero ¡cuidado! No es llegar sin nada y hacer todo a última hora, ese tipo de cosas deben ser producto de tu ensayo personal, solo es tomar un tiempo para que se pongan de acuerdo y llegar claros al ensamble.

Con esto claro, quiero contarte cómo hacemos un ensamble en El Despertar.

  1. Lo primero que se define es el setlist que se va a ensamblar.
  2. Todos los integrantes de la banda toman su tiempo personal para ensayar su papel dentro de cada canción.

Para los instrumentos: aquí se deben definir qué sonidos, efectos, intenciones y estilos se usan en la canción. Después de tener esto claro, se eligen y se ajustan los niveles para asegurar el mismo nivel de volumen en todos los sonidos y efectos. En este punto debes tener en cuenta que, en ocasiones, algunos niveles pueden ser más bajos o más altos, de acuerdo a la necesidad de esa parte de la canción. También se debe llevar a cabo un acople previo de las progresiones y arreglos que se van a realizar.

En cuanto a las voces, solo deben definir cuál va a ser su participación en la canción: intencionalidad, tipo de voz que se va a hacer, dónde entra, dónde sale, dónde apoya, entre otros.

  1. Todos los músicos y voces se reúnen para ensamblar las canciones, allí se van definiendo los arreglos (nuevos y existentes) de una manera más detallada. En este espacio también se pueden crear cosas nuevas.
  2. Se toca el setlist una y otra vez hasta que todas las canciones queden listas.

¿Cómo reconocer que una canción ya está lista y aprobada?

Es muy fácil, cuando suene sin ningún tipo de errores.
